In 2025, mornings in the occupied West Bank begin with uncertainty and fear. It is difficult to travel easily around with the newly imposed system of gates and increasing settler violence.  But in the years 2005-2010, Jane Toby of Catskill, New York had an amazing opportunity to live with Christian and Muslim Arab families in different parts of the West Bank, and document their lives in photos and film. Café Joust will be hosting her photos in an exhibit throughout the month of November, culminating Nov. 22 in a film-screening of her short doc in progress: WHEN WE MEET: STORIES FROM THE WEST BANK.

The screening will take place at 7 pm, preceded at 5 pm by a taste of Palestinian fare at Café Joust, under the exquisite hand of Lauren Tanchum.  The screening will be followed by a discussion with Jane Toby. The event is free and open to the public.  All sales and donations will go to aid the lives of West Bank Palestinians. Jane Toby is a 2025 Grantee by Create Council on the Arts, a Statewide Community Regrant Program, serving Greene, Columbia and Schoharie Counties.
