Sofia works as a location scout for a TV pilot filming in New York City. It’s her job to find the homes, businesses, and exteriors where the show will be filmed. Driving around the city’s different neighborhoods, she enters the private spaces of strangers to photograph their cozy apartments and eclectic shops, stepping into the fabric of their lives while trying to satisfy the demands of her erratic employers. Over a day filled with these encounters, Sofia witnesses moments of curiosity, vulnerability, and quiet tension until her work takes a sudden, personal turn.
Before The Scout, we’ll also be showing Dream Commons Radio by Véra Haddad. Dream Commons Radio is an experimental documentary on dreams formed by spontaneous connections made with strangers across the U.S. Through personal reflections, dream re-enactments, and collaborative portraiture the film acts as an anthology of people’s dream lives: exploring the meaning of dreams for different people under different circumstances. The filmmaker, Véra Haddad, will be screening a short-form work-in-progress excerpt of the feature film.
After the films, stick around for a postshow Q&A with The Scout director Paula González-Nasser and producer/editor Ryan Martin Brown, moderated by Véra Haddad.
