Alex (Denis Lavant), a street performer in Paris, breathes fire and flips for pocket change which he promptly spends on alcohol and barbiturates. Michèle (Juliette Binoche), a painter with deteriorating eyesight, also lives on the streets. They meet near the Pont Neuf, fall in love, and become dependent on one another — all while the French Revolution’s bicentennial happens around them. Featuring a scale replica of the famous Parisian bridge which nearly bankrupted the production, director Leos Carax’s dazzling doomed love story is presented here in a new 4K restoration.
