After Nora and Agnes Borg’s mother dies, they reconnect with their estranged father Gustav, a famous film director whose recent retrospective might garner enough funding for a new feature. He wishes to cast Nora, a successful actress who once starred in one of his films, but old feelings get in the way. Gustav casts a Hollywood actress for the part written for Nora — a role based on his own mother’s life — and everyone is suddenly swept into this family’s storied, turbulent history. Starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, and Elle Fanning, this film won Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World) the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
